Welcome to the Morpeth Bulls Junior Rugby League Club!
Proudly based in the heart of the Hunter, the Morpeth Bulls are more than just a footy club — we’re a community. Built on the values of respect, teamwork, resilience, and growth, our club provides a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where young players can thrive both on and off the field.
From our mini bulls taking their first steps into the game, to our seasoned juniors chasing rep dreams, we’re here to help every child develop their skills, build lifelong friendships, and fall in love with rugby league.
We invite you to explore our site, stay up to date with the latest news, view our gallery, connect with our teams, and be part of a club that puts its players and families first.
History
Morpeth Bulls History
Founded in 1992 by a passionate group of locals, the Morpeth Bulls Junior Rugby League Club was built on the belief that every child deserves a place to play. From humble beginnings with just five age-group teams, the Bulls have grown into a proud and inclusive club with 20 teams, offering opportunities for boys, girls, and mixed squads aged 5 to 18.
For over three decades, Morpeth Bulls has been at the forefront of junior rugby league in the Newcastle-Maitland region, fostering not only sporting excellence, but also community spirit, sportsmanship, and personal development. More than just a rugby league club, we are a family — one that values teamwork, respect, commitment, and belonging.
A driving force behind the Bulls’ story is our beloved club matriarch, Wendy Povey, one of the founding members and the heartbeat of our club since day one. In 2022, her tireless dedication was formally recognised when she received the NSWRL Gordon Lowrie Memorial Award as Volunteer of the Year. Wendy’s service spans decades — from founding member, to club Treasurer, canteen supervisor, and the one who manages everything from jerseys and balls to baking pies for game day. She is affectionately known as “Nan” to all, and for many, the Bulls wouldn’t be the same without her.
Wendy’s legacy includes championing inclusion within the sport — notably being central to introducing the club’s first girls team in 2021. Her philosophy has always been simple but powerful:
“There wasn’t a club where the kids, who might not be the fastest or most skilful, could play — so we started one.”
Today, Morpeth Bulls continues to be a sanctuary for families, a launchpad for young players, and a hub for community connection. While we may not carry the legacy of older clubs, our 30-year history is a testament to what heart, hard work, and community can build.
We’re proud of our past, excited about our future, and committed to ensuring every child who wears the Bulls jersey feels part of something bigger than just the game — they’re part of the Bulls family.
